The Lake Erie Source Protection Committee is holding a public consultation period from January 25 to March 8, 2021 to consider proposed changes to the Wellington Chapter of the Grand River Source Protection Plan. These changes are related to draft water quantity policies that will apply within Grand River watershed in Wellington County and the identification of a new wellhead protection area for quantity in the Townships of Centre Wellington and Mapleton including Elora, Fergus, Salem and Alma. The policy changes will also apply to a small number of properties within the Town of Erin within the Acton wellhead protection area for quantity. In addition to the water quantity changes, some changes are also proposed to the mapping of the wellhead protection areas for quality from the City of Cambridge in the Region of Waterloo.
These changes are within the Township of Puslinch as well as locations within the Region of Waterloo.
Please note that the proposed changes only affect properties located within the draft wellhead protection area mapping shown on the Lake Erie website. Additionally, please note that individual domestic wells are not impacted by the water quantity policy requirements except general education and outreach. The focus of the water quantity policies are water takers > 50,000 litres per day or properties that are slated for redevelopment.

Wellington Source Water Protection and Lake Erie Source Protection Region staff are hosting two online webinars about proposed water quantity and water quality updates to the assessment report and source protection plan. Webinars will include opportunities for the public to ask questions. Webinars will be video recorded and posted here.
